Resume

Kyle Phillips

IT support and security analyst with a school and MSP background.

Summary

I've spent the last few years in hands-on support roles: three years running day-to-day IT at a school of 850+ staff and students, then L2/L3 escalations for an MSP's business clients across Microsoft 365, Entra ID, Intune, Windows, and Linux. Prevention comes first in how I work: hardened servers, routine Microsoft Attack Simulation Training, and every change through version control and CI, so problems surface as failed checks rather than incidents. I care about leaving users understanding what happened, and leaving documentation the next person can follow.

Experience

Infrastructure Engineer

Jun 2025 – Feb 2026

Solution One · Mornington VIC

  • Escalation point for the MSP's business clients, working L2/L3 tickets across Windows and Linux servers, networking, web hosting, and EDR through to root cause.
  • Built the security monitoring the team relied on: Grafana (Prometheus, Loki, Alertmanager) with Windows security-event monitoring, degradation notifications, and granular logging that surfaced warnings before they became client-facing errors.
  • Moved the team from manual changes to version-controlled deployments, with every change validated through an Azure DevOps pipeline before it reached production.
  • Turned patching, SSL renewals across 20+ systems, and backup and EDR health checks into scheduled, automated processes, each documented as a runbook.
  • Hardened a legacy environment: patched critical vulnerabilities, tightened SSH policy, and added firewall rate limiting.

Technical Support Specialist

Oct 2022 – Jun 2025

Solution One · Nossal High School, Berwick VIC

  • First point of contact and escalation for staff and students: desktop, software, and hardware issues across Windows, Microsoft 365, printing, and meeting-room AV, resolved on the spot wherever possible.
  • Logged and tracked every request in the ticketing system, and migrated the helpdesk itself to Zammad, data migration and cutover included.
  • Ran device onboarding through 802.1X and SCEP certificates, and traced connectivity problems end to end across VLANs, DNS, and DHCP on Palo Alto firewalls and Meraki wireless.
  • Maintained Windows Server, Entra ID, and VMware alongside the IT Manager, with NetBox and self-hosted docs as the source of truth and runbooks the school still uses today.

Software Engineer (Contract)

Mar 2026 – Apr 2026

Neuroscale AI · Remote · United States

  • Short contract at an AI talent-intelligence platform: AI pipeline work, admin CMS features, and security and architecture fixes across the wider system.

Open Source

Nosdesk

2025 – Present

Free and open source helpdesk platform · personal project

  • Nosdesk is the technical challenge I enjoy outside of work: a free and open source helpdesk platform that keeps my skills sharp in the tooling support teams live in every day.
  • Built with the same prevention-first habits: database-level tenant isolation, a signed plugin system, and a CI gate for dependency vulnerabilities.
